Join us as we welcome former Vancouver Canuck enforcer Gino Odjick and entrepreneur Peter Leech for a youth-oriented presentation that will feature the Wheel of Fear, a “tool” designed to support youth on their wellness journey. The Wheel enables youth to identify fears, explore their origins, and learn how to overcome these fears. This presentation will also cover issues such as bringing awareness to the issue of bullying and learning how to use the Wheel of Fear in situations where bullying is involved. Peter and Gino will also share their personal challenges and how they overcame bullying and adversity to achieve their dreams.
Learning Objectives
- To raise awareness of the increasing incidence of bullying in our communities.
- To present a model for youth and educators which will enable them to successfully deal with bullying.
- To understand the challenges that Gino and Peter faced on the road to success, and explore how these challenges were navigated to accomplish their goals.

The Presenters
Gino Odjick is Algonquin from Maniwaki, Quebec. A former National League hockey player, he spent twelve seasons in the NHL (eight of them with the Vancouver Canucks) where he became known as the “Algonquin Enforcer” for his fighting prowess. Since retiring from the NHL in 2002, Gino has focused his energies on being a positive role model for Aboriginal youth. He has delivered workshops around the province on issues such as bullying, effective communication skills, relationship building, and goal setting.
Gino currently resides in Vancouver where he partners with the Musqueam Nation to operate the Musqueam Golf and Learning Academy.
Peter Leech is a former professional hockey player and member of the T’it’q’et Community Village of the St’at’imc Tribal Nation who specializes in working with First Nations communities and organizations, public and private sector companies, individuals, teams and young adults (i.e. youth) in all aspects of life.
Peter’s athletic accomplishments include a stint with the East Coast and Central Hockey Leagues. He also won a gold medal in boxing at the North American Amateurs. Peter’s athletic talents extended to soccer, where he played semi-pro soccer and worked in developing professional athletes both on and off the playing field.
Peter has a Masters Degree in Business (MBA) and has completed studies in adolescent counseling, film and television. In the field of education, he is also a part-time professor teaching satellite business courses for First Nations communities in British Columbia on behalf of the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology, and encourages young people to further and complete their educational ambitions. Peter is also a very proud and loving husband for 20 years and father of three.
