About the Presenter:
T’uy’t’tanat-Cease Wyss
Skwx̱wú7mesh/Sto:Lo/Metis/Hawaiian/Swiss
T’uy’t’tanat- Cease Wyss is an interdisciplinary artist who works with new media and interdisciplinary arts as well as community engaged and public artist.
Her arts practice of 25+ years has been focussed on sustainability, Indigenous Cultural elements and have included themes of ethnobotany and digital media technology. Cease is an emerging textiles artist learning Skwx̱wú7mesh and Sto:lo weaving techniques in wool and cedar.
Recent works and shows include:: 2019 Indigenous Storyteller in Residence with the VPL, a group show in Brisbane at the IMA entitled “The Commute”, co-curated by 5 curators and 8 artists being featured together. This show will be presented at the VAG [Vancouver Art Gallery] in the fall of 2019.
This year Cease will be launching two public art projects. One will be a public art project entitled “Constellation of Remediation” in collaboration with Dene artist Anne Riley. This project will focus on plants and fungi as remediators. The second public art project will take place through Gallery 221a located at the Semi Public site on Georgia St in the Strathcona neighbourhood. This project will transform an empty lot into a small forest through plant remediation and permaculture elements.
Cease is currently working with a group of indigenous matriarchs in a program entitled “IM4:: Indigenous Matriarchs 4”. This project will create training supports for up to 200 indigenous people throughout B.C. in AR/VR/XR/MR for a diverse array of different work and art practices.
