Facilitation Skills with IndigenEYEZ: Blending Technical & Creative Approaches with Warren Hooley

More information about the session:

IndigenEYEZ is about transforming communities. Their mission is to inspire an intergenerational legacy of well-being among First Nations people in BC and beyond.

IndigenEYEZ blends land-based learning with the arts and best practices in community-building. Their approach—the Creative Community Model—is being used around the world. It has been refined over the past two decades by PYE Global (www.PYEGlobal.org), an organization that generously shares its knowledge with many partners. IndigenEYEZ has adapted this approach especially for First Nations, whose participants report that these workshops are both inspiring and effective. They say that IndigenEYEZ helps them make meaningful improvements to how they deliver existing programs, and report renewed energy, improved program design, and increased capacity to engage youth at a deeper level.

In this session, Warren Hooley will introduce the Creative Community Model as practiced by IndigenEYEZ. He will discuss how adaptable this approach is to many situations, groups, challenges and dynamics, and how learning both technical and creative facilitation skills can help facilitators accomplish their goals effectively with individual participants as well as with groups.

About the Presenter:

Warren Hooley, Founding Facilitator, is a 31-year old man from the Syilx (Okanagan) Territory in Penticton, British Columbia. Having mixed roots of Okanagan, Irish and Ukrainian and growing up in both the western and indigenous world, Warren brings experience from both sides of his lineage to his work as a facilitator. For the past 8 years, Warren has passionately chosen a career of facilitating groups and delivering workshops on the topics of Creative Facilitation, Healthy Masculinity and Compassionate Communication. Today, living in Vancouver BC, Warren works for multiple organizations as a contract facilitator providing communities, groups of youth and adults with the skills and awareness to make meaningful changes in their lives. “I use facilitation as a tool to help myself and others build the lives and communities we want to live in, beyond what we’ve been told, beyond the limits of our past. To build a future truly worth living and passing on the next generations”.
