Come and learn about the importance of culture in a First Nations treatment centre with with Nenqayni Wellness Centre Society Executive Director Willie Alphonse, who will be presenting live from Nenqayni’s videoconference facilities to the UBC Learning Circle. Nenqayni’s mission is “To provide holistic healing to First Nations and Inuit youth, families, and communities in a safe and secure environment.”

About the Presenters
Willie Alphonse (Executive Director). Willie has been a counselor at Nenqayni since September 2008 and is a level 2 certified addictions counselor. Prior to his counseling work he was a member of the Nenqayni Board of Directors from 1992 to 2008. As a member of the Northern Shuswap Nation, he held the position of chief of the Williams Lake Indian Band for ten years. Willie moved into his current position on December 21st 2009. Willie is proud to supervise and be a part of the hard working Nenqayni team.
Meghann Brinoni (Director of Family Services and Special Projects). After completing a BA in Psychology and Sociology, Meghann started working in Mental Health and Addictions for the Interior Health Authority. In 2009 she was hired at Nenqayni Wellness Centre as a program shift supervisor and is now the Director of Family Services and Special Projects. Since 2009 Meghann has supervised the Nenqayni Youth Program, Family Program, and Community Mobile Program and writes many of Nenqayni’s proposals and presentations. Meghann loves to work with the communities of the Cariboo-Chilcotin and is continually inspired by the resilience and beauty of the people and the land in the interior of BC.
Walter Rennie (Continuing Care Coordinator). Walter Rennie has worked with Nenqayni Wellness Centre for over five years. He began his employment as a Coach and then he became a Supervisor and held that role for a few years. Currently Walter is the Continuing Care Coordinator. He holds an Associate Addictions Counsellor Certificate, is a Crisis Prevention Institute Trainer and is qualified to facilitate Grief and Loss Recovery workshops. Walter is involved in his community in many ways. He loves his job and is passionate about helping others.
